Luke 10:40 But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.

In Luke 10 The Lord answered “Martha, Martha” as He does to so many of us. We love the Lord and we are busy about His business. (Luke 10:41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things…) Lord don’t you care I am working so hard? Don’t you care that no one is helping me?

One thing I see is that it is not the work she was doing, it was her attitude. She was worried and upset because someone else was not helping her. Then to top it off, Jesus would not tell Mary to help her.  She was troubled about many things. There are so many things that can distract us from hearing from our Lord. There is so much that can trouble us. Work, family, the news, friends, etc…

We have to make sure we are not so busy as Martha that we do not take time to sit at Our Lord’s feet, just to hear his voice, to spend time with Him, and to just be in His presence. We have to watch our attitudes. Why are we doing the work anyway??

So many are so busy doing work for the Lord, forgetting He just wants to spend time with us. It is not that Martha did not Love the Lord. She received Him in her house. (One can be saved and receive what the Lord has done, but they still need to spend time in the presence of the Lord for direction, guidance, and just to be with the one they Love.)  Martha might have felt if she did not do it, the job would not get done. Someone has to do it. Or even I am serving the Lord and that is the most important thing.

I read somewhere: Sitting at Christ’s feet, signifies readiness to receive His word, and submission to the guidance of it.

Martha was providing for the entertainment of Christ, and those that came with him. Sounds like some churches. They are so busy entertaining people that they are not in the word themselves, so they don’t share the truths of the word with others as they minister to them. They only entertain them.

What needless time is wasted, and expense often laid out in entertainment , even in entertaining of those who need to hear the gospel! Even when some are so called sharing the word, it is only a show to get more people in their church or get their money. They will not tell them the truth. You have sinned and need to repent. They won’t tell them about the Cross or even talk about the Blood Jesus shed for their sins.

It is not easy to balance work, family, etc.. with spending time in the word & just listening to God. We all have full schedules. We have a lot of Good things that we are doing to share the word with others, to serve others, & to meet other people’s needs. But what is our priority? Is the word last? Is prayer last? Is spending time just listening last?

We might have to so “NO” to some good things to do the “Needful thing” as Mary.
Luke 10:42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

It is about choices. We could keep busy 24 hrs a day with all the needs in the world. Jesus just showed Martha the difference between something good and something better. He showed her the difference between what she was doing and what Mary was doing. He also told her “Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” Jesus is not so much condemning Martha, but commending Mary. Her priorities were in order.
This does not mean we go in the other ditch, only spending time in the word, that we do no deeds. There is a balance to put the word we learn into action. But to many today are spending to much time, money, and energy into things that do not have any eternal value.
So has Jesus said to you, “Angie, Angie” as He has me. Oh we all need to examine our ways on a regular basis. There is one out there that tries to get us doing good things that we do not choose the better thing.

1 Peter 5:6-8 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour…

Acts 3:19 …the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord. Don’t let satan hinder you from coming to the presence of the Lord. That is where you get refreshing, love, peace, etc…

Go to Him, spend time with Him, talk to Him, & listen to Him. He cares for you. There is on out there who wants to devour you. He is seeking you. Be found at Jesus feet!!! Oh Praise God.
